Hello, My name is Monica and I wanted to become a Doula after my 3rd child was born. I was clinician in a school and while out on maternity leave there were a few high profile news stories of moms having severe postpartum depression. I too had postpartum depression so I could relate to the feelings some of them were having. I began wondering what ways I could help moms during this time, what would help decrease the symptoms, what helped me with my symptoms, and how to make mom feel supported during this time. I found a few doula programs however I didn’t feel it was the right time to enroll. Once my children got a little older, becoming a doula was still on my heart, so decided this was the right time and set my goals to enroll in IDI to learn more about this path.
I have worked as a home-based Mental health/Mobile therapist, Behavior Specialist and in school Masters Level clinician. I am also a Special Ed teacher. Working with families in both the home setting and within the school, I have the skills to ask questions to get to the needs of mom, child and family as a whole. I also can set goals with the family and help them see them through. I feel this helps with becoming a doula because I understand that every family is unique and have individual needs. I learned not to judge families but to find ways to support them where they are and guide them to meeting their goals. Most importantly, I am a Mom so I have lived experiences. I live with my 3 children, 2 boys (14,10) and 1 girl (11).
I now live in Media Pa, which is lovely little town. Very eclectic and cozy. I grew up in Philadelphia. I left Philly after high school to explore other areas. I eventually landed in Elkton, Maryland when I started having children.
I love to paint, see live bands and eat great food!No Records Found
