  • Alyssa Shoop here. I come from a family of eight kids, all homeschooled and homegrown. I am child number four and smack dab in the middle of the “oldest” and “youngest” kids. You can imagine my confusion growing up about my piece in the puzzle. So, I became the helper and encourager for the good and bad ideas. My current job title is “Professional Nanny.” I work full time helping a family with 2, soon to be 3, kiddos. From age 12 until now (20), I have spent my free time babysitting for multiple families in different stages of life. I graduated highschool knowing I wanted to support Moms and children in my career, but I knew being a labor and delivery nurse was not for me. Being a midwife is my ultimate goal, but for now I have completed my Certified Breastfeeding Counselor course and am working through my Birth and Postpartum Doula courses with a plan to further my education on herbalism and the use of natural medicine to support the human body. I believe in the human body’s natural capability to do what it was designed to do–Mothers just need the environment to listen to their bodies and work with it. My goal in this career is to advocate for and support Mothers in getting the birthing experience they desire and deserve. Being a doula allows me the opportunity to educate those that have questions and concerns about their pregnancy and the birthing experience. I can support Mothers physically, emotionally, and educationally
